COMPETITION TIME – One Skein Challenge

I had such fun with the comments and participation for the Make-a-Monster Competition that I thought I’d start an other competition.

Since it is the beginning of the new crochet and knitting season, I’ve been looking at new yarns, pattern inspiration and pattern books. The one thing that occurred to me is that there are many of us out there with a stash containing several single beautiful skeins of yarn that we bought for the colour/texture/the way it made you feel/all of this, but it’s not yet found a project home. There comes a time when just looking at them from time to time is no longer enough. You just need to make something of it.

But there are not many truly one skein patterns out there. It is a bit of a conundrum. So the idea of the new Competition was born.

One Skein Challenge

In order to be eligible, please leave a comment and tell me about your favourite project to be made with one skein. If by any chance you have a second to “Like” Monster Yarns, I’d be very grateful.

One skein = 100g or less. No yardage limit but please be sensible.

Open to All.

The winner will be the most innovative idea and plus marks for providing the pattern too.

Competition closes on 13th October and winner will be announced on 14th October.

The Prize

Some things are the same – knitters really like winning yarn. Even non-knitters are converted. See here for the winner of the Beginners Group and her reaction to winning yarn. Another yarn convert!

So the winner will receive these beautiful individual skeins of yarn – in DK (lambswool and cotton in cream), Aran (100% pure wool in tweed flecked rusty orange) and Chunky (100% pure new wool in tweed flecked regal purple) weight. Perfect for any single-skein project!

JpegIn case you’re wondering, here are my ideas!

Look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Sounds like fun. Love those dog pictures. So cute.

I like to make fingerless mitts. My favorite thing to do is to knit a tube in the round out of ribbing for the wrist, increase for the hand, then work back and forth for a while to give you a hole for the thumb, then switch back to knitting in the round. It’s pretty much the easiest thing ever, and you can totally dress it up with lace or a cable on the back of the hand too! Sometimes you can squeak two or three pairs out of one skein as well 😀

    • That’s cool! Two/three pairs out of ONE skein? Everyone is getting mitts for Christmas : )
      I’ve never knitted any before….

      Thanks for entering!

    • And CONGRATULATIONS! The yarn is yours – email me your address and I’ll pop it in the post. Please use the contact form as otherwise I get tons of spam. Thanks.
